WE Are Rafiki — Fundraiser
Published on Mar 19, 2019 20:09

In Swahili, rafiki means friend.

Rafiki bracelets are beautiful, one-of-a-kind & handmade by a mother in Kenya.

Purchasing a Rafiki bracelet helps Kenyan mothers make a living and also helps a special cause that our school has chosen.

Did you know that according to the United Nations almost 60 million school-aged children aren't in school?

Did you know that Sierra Leone in Africa is one of the world's poorest countries? Did you know that it's one of the toughest countries to survive in? The country is plagued with poverty and illness, the life expectancy is only 47 years old and they collect most of their drinking water from polluted sources. The shortage of schools and teachers has made access to education nearly impossible for many children.

Our school Social Justice team has chosen Education in Sierra Leone to be our fundraising project for this year. Through the WE charity, every $50 raised will provide primary education for one child. $1000 will provide furniture and school supplies for an entire classroom.

To achieve our goal of raising $3000, the Social Justice team will be selling Rafiki bracelets and Minga bracelets at school during Nutrition Breaks starting on March 25th. They will also be on sale during the evening performance of “Press Start” on April 3rd. Exact change would be appreciated.

For every $10 Rafiki or Minga bracelet you buy, $5 will go directly to a Kenyan woman to pay them for their work, and $5 will go directly to our fundraising project.

Please consider buying a bracelet. $10 will help empower the women who made them, help children have access to education, and make a fashion statement at the same time!

Thank you.
