Junk Drawer Races is a skill competition put on yearly by Ontario Skills. This year we had two teams submit their projects. A grade 8 team created a hydraulic crane system. The crane was made from paper products: toothpicks, wood skewers, fluids, syringes, and plastic tubes. The grade 8 were challenged to test their crane to see if they can lift a load of up to 200 grams from Pickup Point 1, drop it at Drop Point 1/Pickup Point 2, lift it again, and finally drop it at Drop Point 2. Although our team was successful, they did not make it into the top 3 (competing against schools all across Ontario). 

The second team that submitted was a grade 6 team for the Paper Glider competition. The glider plane was made from paper products. The object of this challenge was to have their glider stay in the air for the longest time period. Although our team was successful, their glider flew across the entire gym, they did not make it into the top 3 (competing against schools all across Ontario). Both teams did amazing and should be very proud of their success!
