Jesse Tree: Helping our Neighbours in Need
Published on Nov 14, 2018 16:46

St. Angela Merici Catholic School is holding a Christmas charity drive for The Helping Hands, our local food bank that supports Bradford's families in need.

This holiday season, in order to help those in our community who are in need, our school will have a Jesse Tree dedicated to the sponsorship of nine families. The idea for a Jesse Tree is inspired from Isaiah 11:1, "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit." (Jesse was the father of King David.) During Advent, homemade ornaments that represent the bible stories
, starting with the Old Testament and continuing through to the New Testament, will be placed on the tree.

School Council member, Nicole Hill, has taken the lead with this initiative again this year. Ornaments for our Jesse Tree will grace the twelve foot Christmas trees in our front foyer, on loan from The Home Depot. Each ornament will specify the needs of the individual family members we are supporting (e.g., gift cards, clothes, books, toys, etc.). Each ornament will also indicate the age and gender of the recipient. We encourage you to select a paper ornament off of our Jesse Tree, bring it home to your family, and buy a gift to help a family in need.

You will be able to select an ornament(s) off the Jesse tree anytime from Thursday, November 15th, 2018, until Friday, December 7th, 2018. This includes the evening of parent/teacher interviews. Your child can choose an ornament off the Jesse tree during school time as well. Once you have purchased your gift, please send it to the school unwrapped with the ornament tag attached. Please send your gift donation to school with your child by Friday, December 7th, 2018.

If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, please have your child bring a cheque made payable to St. Angela Merici Catholic School by the above due date.

Thank you for your support with this initiative. It is our hope that all families in our community will be able to have a joyous and blessed Christmas season.

Yours in Catholic education,
