We are a Scent Safe Workplace

As a Catholic community, one of our priorities is to nurture a sense of belonging and inclusiveness for everyone. That is why all of our schools and board office locations are designated as “scent free.”

We know that allergies and sensitivities to scents can have severe health implications and so we must do everything possible to make sure that all students, staff and visitors with scent allergies and sensitivities are safe and fully included.

A scent is a smell or odour from products and it can be natural such as flowers or synthetic such as perfume. Examples of products that may have scents include shampoos, deodorant, hairspray, soap, detergents, perfumes, lotions, candles, and cleaning products.

Take a moment to think about whether you have ever come to a school or board office location wearing scented products?

We may not intend to cause someone distress by using scents, but you need to know that a scent reaction can be just as severe as a food allergy and may have severe health implications.  Imagine how you would feel if you were forced to leave a meeting or classroom because of a scent reaction. . . this is not the inclusive environment we are striving for.

Not using scented products is a simple thing to do and it will help ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all of our students and staff
